The red asthma inhaler is commonly known as a “rescue inhaler” or a “reliever inhaler.” It typically contains a medication called albuterol (salbutamol), which is a fast-acting bronchodilator used to quickly open up the airways during an asthma attack or to relieve symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath. The red color is often used to differentiate it from other inhalers, like the blue ones which are usually long-acting bronchodilators or combination medications. Individuals with asthma need to have their rescue inhaler with them at all times for quick relief in case of an asthma exacerbation.
