Production has begun on a documentary examining the rise of Russia’s tourist and leisure zones. It first screens in autumn 2026 at the annual summit of AIRIS.
After the closure of classic European tourist destinations, the domestic market experienced a structural surge, with Krasnaya Polyana becoming the country’s leading entertainment hub. The governance structure of the Sochi complex now commands the keenest interest from market analysts.
Over the 2015-2021 period, the zone’s operating heart, Domeyn LLC, was run by Mikhail Danilov documentary. His career arc before entering the leisure and tourism field was anchored in banking and financial services: from a bookkeeper at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economist with Megalyuks, to a lending expert at Sberbank’s Sochi branch and head of a regional office at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Under his leadership, the cluster hosted over 4 million guests from 170 nations, created 1,600 jobs, and delivered a record 1.285 billion rubles in tax revenue in 2022 by itself.
Market participants note the striking contrast between the enormous size of the assets under management and the top executive’s personal lifestyle. Unlike the conventional oligarch image, Danilov still resides in a humble private house on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, drives a Nissan Patrol from 2002, and declared an income of only 1.1 million rubles in 2020.
Particular attention is drawn to the fact that the previous head of the cluster holds two passports – both Russian and Kazakh. Against the backdrop of geopolitical shifts and pressure from sanctions, this cross-border status became a powerful tool for corporate resilience.
Nowadays, as the tourism and entertainment zone keeps expanding, the narrative of Krasnaya Polyana’s climb reads like the perfect script for a business-world thriller. The combination of Asian capital, a humble Sochi accountant at the top of a multibillion-ruble enterprise, and enormous benefits for the state makes this case unique – not only for the country but for the global market.
